I’m excited to be a part of Ashburn CrossFit! I was first drawn to CF when I saw WODs worked from a neighborhood garage. Finally, I stopped my minivan, asked what they were doing, and if I could join them! I was hooked! It’s always a challenge, always changing, and never dull! I used to exercise by myself, but now I appreciate the camaraderie that comes from WODing with friends. They keep you moving and cheer you on! Before CrossFit, I was a runner and a biker, and I came into the box with very little strength beyond my legs. I could not handle a single pushup. There is always something to work on, but I’m a devoted CrossFitter because of what I have already gained. CrossFit keeps me fit in so many ways to handle whatever life brings. My girls call me CrossFit Mom! I take pride in showing them that women are strong and capable with both physical and mental grit.

I got into coaching because I love teaching! I taught fourth grade and 7th grade science for LCPS. I left to have more time for my family, but I MISSED TEACHING. So what better way to bring two of my favorites together, than to coach Cross Fit! Since setting my sights on coaching, I’ve earned my L1 and L2 with CrossFit, CrossFit Kids Certification, a Kettle Bell cert with CrossFit, and certifications in sports nutirition and nutrition coaching.  My favorite WODs include rowing, dead lifts, or goblet squats. Maybe not all together though. My least favorite include burpees or double unders, or 50 reps of anything.

Brandon’s journey into CrossFit started where all good things begin, Netflix. Shortly after stumbling upon “Fittest on Earth: A Documentation of the 2015 CrossFit Games” he sought out to find a local CrossFit gym and join this new way of training. He is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan where after enduring twenty-five years of 5-month Winters and windchill’s well below zero, he decided it was time to move to an area with a more reasonable climate. In April 2017 he packed up his Jeep and drove to Ashburn, Virginia.

In his own words:

“I have been a part of many fitness related facilities in my lifetime. I have been to other CrossFit gyms, fitness studios, and even ran a sports facility of my own for six years. And still, never in my life have I seen such a close, cohesive, community of people that is Ashburn CrossFit. I am very blessed to be a part of it.”

Hi All! My name is Shelby and I have played soccer for nearly 20 years. Throughout high school and college I played semi-professionally, represented the east coast region as a goalkeeper, and then played Division 1 at Longwood University. Soccer was my absolute passion my entire young life, and to improve my strength and on-field ability, I began lifting. Once I graduated college, I was immediately in search of a new team, a new coach, and a new way to spend my free time. I found CrossFit, and within minutes of walking into my first CrossFit gym I knew that it was what I needed. I suddenly had a family again, a team, a group of people who wanted to better themselves as badly as I did. I have been doing CrossFit for three years now. I compete regularly in RX competitions, Olympic Lifting (I won gold at my first meet, shout out to Lee for preparing me!) and I love moving heavy weight. I am now a high school teacher by day, and a soccer and CrossFit coach by night. I am very excited to be able to contribute to the ACF community!

A competitive gymnast (in her dreams), and an eighth grade English learning specialist (in real life), Mary found CrossFit in college thanks to her older siblings’ addiction to the sport. It didn’t take long for her to chug the Kool-Aid, and after that, it was game over.

Handstand push-ups, burpees, and squats are her favorite movements. Mary has coached for over three years and has loved watching her athletes achieve their goals. Within such a great community, she looks forward to encouraging athletes at ACF to blast past their PRs!
